Wedding planning tips can be found from countless places but a really great source for wedding inspiration can be from past brides, who discuss what they would have done differently for their big day. New York Weddings have just carried out a fantastic survey with one hundred past brides that reveal their wedding planning tips, mistakes & budget regrets. The article makes for a very interesting read and as wedding photographers we were drawn to two very important parts.
Wedding Planning Tips: Advice from past brides
1. The largest percentage of all the brides surveyed, 21% in fact, wish they had spent more on their photography. 12% say they regret spending what they did.
That is almost one in four brides admitting to being less than blown away by their wedding images. We are not saying that you have to spend thousands of pounds to get a photographer that will leave you with wedding photographs that you will love. Especially if you just do not have the budget. The moral here is budget what you can and if wedding photography is important for you, you should be looking to set aside at least 10-15% of your overall wedding budget for your photography. Also invest a proportionate amount of time finding the right photographer for you.
2. When asked “What memories make you cringe?” brides responded with “The tons of posed photos with our family. They already look dated.”
This is a question of style. Posed photographs do not have to be stiff, lifeless images of you & your family standing straight with your arms behind your back. They can be fun, emotional, stylish and best of all quick if put into the hands of a creative wedding photographer. We advise our couples to have between 6-10 group photographs. This way nobody is hanging around too long waiting to get to cocktail hour. Happy guests make a happy wedding!
This article really gives some great wedding planning tips for anyone currently planning their wedding day. With some really important points and a few very humorous anecdotes we hope it provides some helpful hints and tips to help make your wedding exactly as you want it before, during and very importantly after the day has passed.
