At the end of January we flew out to South Africa for my Dad’s 60th birthday. We were so excited for this trip as Glen has not been with me to visit my family in a couple of years. We could not wait for the family time, inevitable card games around the table, being present at such a special occasion and of course the sun and the sea! If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen all the moments from our trip as they unfolded. Here are some of our fave memories from an incredible time in South Africa… By the way if you’re thinking of visiting here I would highly recommend making your way to the Eastern Cape. It is the Western Cape’s more rugged and rural neighbour with some amazing scenery, perfect for adventures off the more beaten track.
We spent pretty much every day on the beautiful beaches in and around Port Alfred. We adventured around the impressive coastline visiting little gems like Kenton on Sea where I spent many a childhood holiday.
After our daily swim and sun session we would find respite in one of the many little cafes in the village. One of the best spots for a lazy lunch or flat white was under the shade of the bougainvillea at Zest Cafe in Port Alfred’s vibey Van Der Riet Street courtyard.
The scenery on the sunshine coast is some of the best. Lucky for us one of the top views was right from my parents’ seaside home overlooking the Kowie River and Port Alfred Marina.
A few days with my gorgeous sister in Port Elizabeth involved some pretty intense retail therapy of course!
Long walks with my brother often resulted in stunning seascapes revealing themselves as the weather shifted and the surf life thrived.
We feasted on all the amazing fresh produce available including delicious baby pineapples. Relaxed jaunts lead to stumbling across even more relaxed cats and finding some new coffee mugs to take home from potter Richard Pullen‘s studio in Bathurst.
We loved our time with family most of all. Unsurprisingly the happiest memories of the trip included these special people. With whom a walk on the beach can turn into a spontaneous yoga festival or impromptu limbo competition. You guys are the best!
