November Adventures: Padstow, Cornwall

November is always a special time of year, being Glen’s birthday month and all that! It was so lovely to return to Padstow in Cornwall, one of our very favourite places, for this special occasion. We both love Cornwall in the winter. The charming villages and gorgeous beaches have a breathtaking serenity about them. When the sun shines the air is deliciously crisp and salty. When the weather turns stormy you can wrap up warm and enjoy the dramatic scenery and warm up afterwards with fresh fish and chips and a cider… perfection! You can see our favourite Instagram captures below..

On this visit we stayed at St Petroc’s Hotel in Padstow in the most charming Attic room. Being right up in the eaves we had spectacular views over the estuary {pictured above} which we could enjoy from a perfectly placed window seat. The hotel being part of the Rick Stein family our breakfast every morning was as you would imagine a rather fabulous affair. Full English, eggs any which way or fresh fish with an array of pastries, jams and orange juice meant each day started with a feast!

The picturesque harbour of Padstow {pictured above} makes a delightful vista. With fisherman in and out every day and gulls gallivanting for tidbits there is always a quiet buzz about the place even during this quiet time of year. One of our favourite things about walking through the cobbled streets or along the sandy beaches of the estuary are the multitude of dogs we meet along the way. Padstow is definitely a dog lover’s paradise! We tend not to mention this to our cat Hemingway when we’re at home…

For Glen’s birthday we spent an adventurous day exploring the caves at Trebarwith Strand {pictured below middle} and the bewitching port of Boscastle {pictured above left}. After an exhilarating day on the wild Cornish coast the evening was all about being spoilt and relaxation. Of course this meant making a reservation at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant. After our fourth visit here it is still our favourite place to dine {pictured above middle and right}. Exquisite seafood dishes generously and expertly prepared and a very laid back atmosphere is why we love returning to the Seafood Restaurant time and time again. After breathing in the sea air, walks by the sea together and enjoying gorgeous seafood everyday Padstow has attached itself even more tightly to our hearts…
