We loved getting to know Julia and Mark on their engagement session this summer. Julia is sweet and just plain gorgeous and Mark has a brilliant sense of humour that keeps everyone entertained. They match each other exquisitely and have a boatload of shared interests; these two cats have clearly been made for each other!
Julia and Mark chose places for their engagement session that were really significant to their history and personalities. They met when fortuitously Mark started teaching at the historic Cathedral school King’s in Gloucester, where Julia was working in the marketing department. They soon started dating and of course this was the biggest news amongst Mark’s students! To celebrate where it all began years ago we started the session at the stunning Gloucester Cathedral, where some of the earlier Harry Potter movies were filmed and of course this romance began.
After shooting at the Cathedral we walked down to the docks, where once upon a time Julia actually had an apartment overlooking the waters. The industrial buildings and river made a fantastic place to photograph this stylish pair. Julia looked fabulous in a chic white dress with nautical detailing on her shoes and belt. A cute scarf and denim jacket finished the look. Mark complemented Julia perfectly with striped blazer cuffs and relaxed canvas shoes suiting the laid back by the water feel while also looking very dapper.
To reflect Julia and Mark’s shared love for all things American we finished the session at Ed’s Easy Diner. Mark actually proposed to Julia in the States so this quintessentially American diner complete with burgers, fries and hotdogs was the perfect spot! We were transported to 50s Americana as we sat in the red leather booths with a jukebox playing retro tunes in the background. Malt milkshakes were the ideal end to an incredible shoot!
We often emphasize to our couples not to worry too much about what a setting looks like for their engagement session but rather what it means to them. If they have the connection we’ll find the angle! With Julia and Mark not only did we have so much fun shooting in their various chosen locations but we really got to know their story and in the process got some amazing photographs of the two of them!
