It has been really difficult to contain our excitement of sharing this special wedding with you all on the blog. A wedding close to our hearts for many, many reasons including the people present on the day, the spectacular location and of course the amazing day itself!
Marene and Bertus celebrated their wedding at the Old Dairy on Oakfield Farm in Muldersdrift Johannesburg. The day started super early with Bertus and the guys hitting the golf course while Marene along with mothers, aunties, family and best friends arranged the final touches for the wedding. Marene created the most stunning day with shabby chic details perfectly paired with the rustic charm of the setting. Old water troughs with rusty taps were showered with rose petals. Painted wooden frames were laced with pearl necklaces and vintage novels. Hundreds of fresh cut flowers were arranged in all manner of mismatched containers from tin mugs and kettles to aged glass bottles. Every table was covered with the most lovely crocheted cream runners, a labour of love by Marene’s mother. A memory table of photographs from the wedding days of much loved grandparents made a thoughtful reminder of the importance of celebrating with loved ones on such a special day. When the pressure of both the venue decorations and a super competitive round of golf was over everyone could relax and start enjoying the excitement of what lay ahead!
With so many highlights from the day it is impossible to mention it all, but we would love to share a few of the standout memories. Spending the morning with both Marene and Bertus, capturing the excitement and emotion of the wedding preparations. Marene arriving at the Chapel in the horse and carriage and the look on Bertus’s face as he saw the girl he was about to marry. All the families being together, uncles united for the first time in years and a grandmother with every one of her grandchildren present. Bertus and Marene cutting their cake outside in the beautiful rose filled garden with so much love around them. The most stunning late afternoon light as we headed off for the bride and groom portraits and just having such a good time with two people fearlessly in love. The dramatic thunderstorm that lit up the African sky seeing in the evening celebrations in a perfectly bold and beautiful way.
